General Functions

• Green color codes are good
• Unknown errors
  Reboot the file server and tape unit > Sync tape machine
  This can solve mystery failures. This can also be used with other techniques ie deal with the error then reboot and resync.
• Manually Backing up the catalog
  Administrative Console > hover over strategy, right click > choose Full Session Now
• Manual Backup
  Administrative Console > Backup > choose strategy eg Strategy A > Full Session Now
• Sync tape machine
  Administrator Console > select library (click and become light grey) > right click choose Reinitialization > choose Bar Code
  Full Inventory can fail to read the drive causing TN to hang/crash. If TN gets out of sync with the drive (observed by Devices > Library > Operations > Management) then TN will escalate failures and crash.
• Enabling drive
  Administrative Console > Drive > Use > Enable
• Cartridge Information
  Administrative Console > Devices > Library > Operations > Management
• Deleting Jobs
  Administrative Console > Monitoring > Job Manager > select the job and select abort.
• State Machine
  Alarms cascade and will bring Tina to a halt. Alarms are tina's errors. Always have jobs cleared. The current strategy is operated on, so if the error is in another strategy load in tapes associated with it.
  Error messages need also be cleared so when an action occurs the operator is not confused with previous errors.
• Backing up live databases
  - use other programs to export the database as a file, often in a cron job
• Tape Change
  Exit TN. > Tape Change > Sync tape machine > check if tapes were loaded through Cartridge Information.
• Library Manager
  Devices > Library > Operations > Management
  
• Pool Information
  Administrative Console > Media > Cartridge > Management > select pool
  displays pools current status (Location is External if not loaded), label and barcode. Can choose other pools with Pool Choice.

• Turning a cartridge into a spare cartridge (eg for reuse)
  Administrative Console > Media > Cartridge > Management > select pool > select cartridge > ->spare ...
• Adding a cartridge into a pool(taken from spare pool)
  Make it a spare, > Administrative Console > Storage > Media > Cartridge > Write Label > select pool OK > enter number of cartridges to label(the cartridges should be there ).
• Testing tapes
  Make the tapes spare. Disbable all tapes not being tested. Devices > Library > Operations > Management > select tape not being tested > right click select Disable
  Devices > Drive > Operations > Test
• Stopping Tina
  ps ax|grep tina
kill -9 id
killall "/Applications/Atempo/tina/Bin/tina_deamon"
Use tina command line tina_stop. Sometimes processes are not interruptible then reboot the server. Rebooting the server is the simplest way to restart tina.
• Tina at the command line
  Load the environment
  # cd /Applications/Atempo/tina
# . ./.tina.sh
Test
  # Bin/tina_ping -host 192.168.80.1

  From the GUI - Time Navigator ... Launcher > Utilities > Command Line Interface
• Recreate the catalog
  Run the command line interface: Time Navigator Launcher > Utilities > Command Line Interface
tina_stop
check tina processes are stopped - on Mac use Activity Monitor > All Processes with tina filter
  move to tina/

• Deleting a catalog
  move /Applications/Atempo/tina/Data.test_catalog to the desktop. > restart tina
• Installing a new SCSII card
  delete library and drive > install drivers > reboot > Administrative Consol > Devices > Device Detection Wizard ... > re-add the library and drive and reboot
• Changed client's host name, then on server right click client and change Host Name.
• Alarms
  Yellow ok (open files), others bad. Generally read and delete alarms - Administrative Console > Monitoring > Alarms
  These can still be accessed through the Event manager.
  Administrative Console > Monitoring > Event Manager > Events > Export > choose /tmp/events and text file. This gives a longer history.
• Trouble shooting
  generate environment report - Time Navigator ... Launcher > Utilities > Environment Reporter > login > choose 0 > generated a tina_env_report... - this contains info on the compete system and was used by the senior engineer for troubleshooting.
  /Applications/Atempo/tina/Adm/event raw text file
  tina_list -jobid 874 > /tmp/temp.txt for failed job 874.
  In the gui double click on the job and look at its event history.
• Restore
  Administrative Console > select a backup platform (light grey border when selected) > right click Restore and Archive Manger > log in as root of that platform > Volumes contains the file system, be as specific as possible.
  
  Slider and date bug: down most recent. Use slider to go back in time and arrows for finer control > select directory/file to restore > select menu Restore > Run > choose Other Directory: /tmp > OK > restores to the targeted platform in their /tmp directory
• Check/edit what is being backed up
  Administrative Console > select platform > Backup > Class > select directory > Edit ...

Configuration

Stop and Start tina after config changes.

Library > Advanced Properties > Generic > Eject Media before Moving, Can Read Barcode in Drive
Standard > Use Barcodes, Dismount Media after Use
